Configuration & setup
This section is for TracsConnect itself: the settings inside your dashboard that control how your shop is connected, displayed, and managed.
It is separate from Integrations. Integrations explain outside tools such as RingCentral or Voxtelesys. Configuration & Setup explains the TracsConnect dashboard settings you use after signing in.
Most setup is handled for you
Section titled “Most setup is handled for you”TracsConnect uses your existing TRACS settings wherever they apply, so you do not have to rebuild your shop setup from scratch. When TRACS already has the shop detail, rule, or default TracsConnect needs, we use that information to save you setup time and keep both systems aligned.
Your main job is to review the synced settings, fill in anything TRACS does not store, and decide where TracsConnect should use a custom setting instead.
Designed to follow TRACS, with room for overrides
Section titled “Designed to follow TRACS, with room for overrides”TracsConnect is designed to stay aligned with your TRACS environment wherever possible. When TRACS already has the rule, shop detail, or setting TracsConnect needs, TracsConnect uses that information so your dashboard matches the way your shop already works.
Some customer-facing workflows need more flexibility than TRACS provides by itself. For those cases, TracsConnect supports custom overrides. An override lets you change the TracsConnect version of a setting without changing the original setting in TRACS.
TracsConnect also includes additional cloud features that are not native to TRACS, such as online scheduling, customer-facing document previews, messaging workflows, permissions, and reporting enhancements. These features are meant to extend your TRACS workflow, not replace it.
Where settings live
Section titled “Where settings live”Most shop setup happens from Settings in the TracsConnect sidebar. Some setup areas also have their own dashboard pages when they need more room, such as Scheduling and Costing Configuration.
| Area in TracsConnect | What it controls | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Server & Agents | The connection between your shop’s TRACS system and TracsConnect. | You download installers, view agent status, and copy the Tenant ID that lets local agents connect to the correct TracsConnect account. |
| Shop Settings | Shop-level defaults such as time zone and torque spec behavior. | These settings are saved per shop. If you have more than one shop, choose the right shop before editing. |
| Branding | The shop name, logo, and contact details customers see. | TracsConnect can start with TRACS information, then let you override specific fields for customer-facing pages and documents. |
| Printing | How estimates, repair orders, invoices, and customer document previews appear. | TracsConnect can follow TRACS print settings or use TracsConnect overrides when you need a consistent cloud-generated layout. |
| SMS / Messaging | Text message routing, phone number assignments, report recipients, and message reports. | These settings control how TracsConnect handles messaging. Carrier or provider accounts still live in their own integration setup. |
| Scheduling | Online booking availability, services, lead time, holidays, capacity, and confirmation messages. | Scheduling has a guided setup flow because several settings must work together before online booking should be enabled. |
| Security | How employee accounts are created and linked. | Owners can choose manual user linking or controlled provisioning from TRACS employee records. |
| Permissions | What staff members can see and do in TracsConnect. | Permissions keep sensitive pages and actions limited to the right roles. |
| Costing Configuration | Technician rates, default rates, efficiency rules, and operational costs. | These settings support costing and profitability views. They do not change TRACS invoices by themselves. |
How TracsConnect settings work
Section titled “How TracsConnect settings work”Some settings are shop-specific. They apply to the selected shop, so always check the shop selector before changing branding, printing, scheduling, messaging, or shop defaults.
Some settings are account-wide. They affect the TracsConnect account, such as agent setup, security behavior, and some permission rules.
Some settings are inherited from TRACS unless you override them. Branding and printing are the clearest examples: TracsConnect can use the information already in TRACS, but you can replace selected values when the customer-facing version needs to look different.
